It’s been decades since we last saw Zack, Lisa, Kelly, Jessie, Slater, and Screech in the wildly popular series of the early 90s. Saved by the Bell was a Saturday morning must-watch for years and fans have been hoping for a reboot for ages. Fortunately for all of us, one is already happening! And the best news? The show will premiere just in time for the holiday. Talk about an early Christmas gift!
Saved by the Bell, the Reboot
The plot of the new series will focus on a new batch of Bayside High students. Some of them were recently transferred from other low-income schools in the area after a decision by California Governor Zack Morris (yes, really) to close them down. As a result, low-income students get mixed up with the over-privileged elite youth that currently dominates Bayside High’s hallowed halls.
More a Sequel Than a Reboot
Aside from a healthy dose of diversity, the series will also see some of our favorite characters come back. Yep, we’ll see Jesse and Slater again with Elizabeth Berkley and Mario Lopes reprising their roles. Jesse is all grown up, and her son is the captain of the football team, while A.C.Slater has become the PE teacher at Bayside High. We’ll occasionally see Zack as the now-governor of California (portrayed by Mark-Paul Gosselaar) too. In a way, the reboot is more of a sequel rather than a remake.
Production Was Halted Due to the Pandemic
Because of the ongoing national pandemic, filming for the series was paused earlier this year. The good news is that production seems to be moving forward again, and filming is back on track. As a result, Peacock, which is NBC’s streaming service, has announced a release date for Saved by the Bell. You will be able to stream the reboot on Peacock starting on November 25th. Yes, just one month before Christmas!
